Even the moments of mixing western-temperamented instrumentation with Persian microtonality seem to work well.

The product of changing out a Persian zarb and tar for a western guitar, bass, or drum kit (or other types of percussion) is that, for a normally monophonic/heterophonic Persian tradition, the instruments aren't in each other's space.  This is one of the only Persian ensemble recordings where the fluttering nature of the ney is easily audible in every track.

The nature of upright bass and drum kits gives the music a jazz flavor
